Dr. Renat Baybekov and Dr. Zafarbek Abdugafurov, from the Republican Specialized Center of Surgery named after Academician V. Vakhidov, are currently undertaking a professional observship at the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute, part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) — one of the most historic and globally renowned transplant centers.
Named after the legendary surgeon Dr. Thomas E. Starzl, who performed the world’s first successful liver transplantation, the Institute remains a leader in organ transplantation science.
The training is conducted under the guidance of Professor Abhinav Humar, an internationally recognized expert in liver and abdominal organ transplantation.
This observship marks an important milestone in advancing transplant medicine in Uzbekistan and strengthening international collaboration in the field of surgery and organ transplantation.
