For the first time in the history of the Sokh District in the Fergana region, a surgical team from the Republican Specialized Scientific and Practical Medical Center of Surgery named after Academician V.V. Vakhidov successfully performed a kidney transplant surgery from a living related donor.
The patient — Ezoskhan Kholmirzayeva, born in 1989 — had been suffering for many years from end-stage chronic kidney failure. The donor was her biological sister, Muattarkhon Sayfutdinova, born in 1986.
The patient was identified during routine planned outreach medical visits conducted by specialists and leadership from the Surgery Center to remote regions of Uzbekistan. During the examination, the patient was given recommendations for preparation and undergoing the necessary tests for a kidney transplant operation. Today, a highly qualified team of surgeons from Tashkent — including Doctor of Medical Sciences Z.T. Matkarimov, J.B. Urinov, M.O. Rustamov, and anesthesiologist I.T. Ablyalimov — in cooperation with local specialists, successfully performed this complex surgery.
This important achievement was made possible thanks to large-scale reforms in the healthcare system initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. As a result of these changes, even the most remote regions of the country are being equipped with modern medical equipment and laboratories, providing the population with access to high-tech medical care on-site.
